Bio

 

Mashiul Chowdhury is a Philadelphia-based artist and an alumnus of Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts (PAFA). He is also in the faculty of several art institutes in Philadelphia Including Penn Studio School of Art.


Mashiul Chowdhury was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He grew up and went to medical school in Bangladesh and immigrated to the US in his late 20s. Mashiul started to attend alumni figure drawing session at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia (PAFA) in 2002.

 

Mashiul’s work has won multiple awards including Best Landscape Award n 2014 at the Philadelphia Sketch Club. He won second place at “In-Person” show for his figure drawing in a national competition in 2018. In 2022, he was one of the winners of “Strokes of Genius” special edition of Artist Magazine in USA. His work is in the permanent collections of the Capital One Corporate Center in Wilmington, Delaware, Cancer Treatment Center of America and the New York Presbyterian Hospital.

 

Mashiul exhibited his works in at least 10 solo show since 2009.

 

Expressive Figure Drawing Workshop

 

Learn how to draw figure, how to make expressive drawing by participating in this 2-day intense workshop with Mashiul Chowdhury.  Students will have an opportunity to learn from short dynamic gestural poses to long poses of a life model.


This course will teach practical information about proportion, skeletal structure, muscle groups, and their relation to surface features of the body; proportional relationships of the human form, and the body in perspective. Participants will draw from photo references and life model and progress from quick gestural sketches to longer tonal studies with charcoal and pastel on toned paper to develop three-dimensional form.  This workshop is for all levels.


Day 1:

Slide presentation on history and fundamentals of figure drawing. Warm up exercises. Practice of gesture and contour drawing and demo from life model.

Day 2:

Critique session on gesture drawing.

Draw from long poses of a model.

Practice from photo references.

About Susquehanna Art Workshops:

Susquehanna Art Workshops is the brainchild of Melissa Carroll and Marita Hines. Their goal is to bring in the best instructors, the "cream of the crop" to Marietta to teach in-person workshops. The workshops will always take place mid-August to late-September and be held at the Union Meeting House or one of the great painting sites in the river towns if the workshop is plein air. Melissa and Marita bring these special opportunities to artists in neighboring communities and to invite people from out-of-town to enjoy the richness of our farmland, river views, small-town charm, and all this area has to offer. Reserving a Workshop Seat:

Students must pay a $225 deposit to reserve a workshop seat. Four weeks prior to the workshop, students will be billed for the remaining balance to be paid promptly. There may be a delay in the final billing if the minimum student enrollment has not been met. 

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

If cancelling a workshop

 

  • More than 1 month from workshop start date but less than 2 months: - full refund less $100 penalty

  • 1 month or less from start of workshop - no refund

  • 2 months or more from start of workshop - full refund less credit card fees

 

USA registrants are welcome to pay by check to avoid the credit card fee deductions on refunds.  Registrants outside the USA must pay by credit card. In all cases, please use the sign up link. Those paying by check should close the web browser after completing the form.  Checks should be made payable to "Marita Hines Art Gallery" and be mailed to MH Art Gallery, 42 West Market St, Marietta PA  17547.
